Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak regularly stayed in an apartment in New York provided by convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to email correspondence with Epstein and his assistants released last week by the US Justice Department.
Haaretz reported on 8 February that hundreds of messages discussed Barak's visits to the apartment between 2015 and 2019.
Epstein was convicted in 2008 of soliciting prostitution from a 14-year-old girl and served 13 months in prison. He was arrested again in July 2019 on child sex crimes charges and allegedly committed suicide in prison in August of that year.
Barak served as Israel's prime minister and defense minister until leaving office in 2013. He attempted to return to politics in 2019, running in Israel's Knesset election.
Barak's wife communicated frequently with Epstein's maintenance staff and personal assistant, who referred to the apartment as "Ehud's apartment."
Epstein owned other apartments in the same building, which he used to host guests and "models" brought from other countries, including some as young as 13.
Barak's wife, Nili, spoke frequently with Epstein and his employees, scheduled meetings between the couple and the convicted sex offender.
She made requests directly to the staff, informing them of her and Barak's arrival dates, asking to have groceries, coffee, and flowers delivered to the apartment, and requesting an upgrade to faster internet.
The couple lived at the apartment for months at a time, with Nili once saying, "Hi Jeffrey … It is a whole different feeling to be in an apartment. We live like New Yorkers."
The email exchanges continued until a few weeks before Epstein's second arrest in 2019, on suspicion that he ran a sex trafficking network involving minors.
Nili emailed Epstein's staff to let them know that she and Barak planned to return to the apartment for another stay just two weeks before the arrest.
Barak's office said in response: "Indeed, during some of their visits to the US. in those years as private citizens, the Barak couple occasionally stayed in an apartment owned by Epstein … Barak regrets, in hindsight, the connection with Epstein."
A newly released 2020 FBI document from the latest batch of Epstein files alleges that Epstein was “trained as a spy” by former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak. The document is based on information provided by a confidential human source (an FBI informant) and was included in millions of pages disclosed last week by the US Justice Department as part of federal investigations into Epstein and his network.
According to the informant, Epstein was believed to be operating as an agent for Israeli intelligence. The document claims Epstein’s longtime lawyer, Alan Dershowitz, told then-US Attorney Alex Acosta that Epstein “belonged to both US and allied intelligence services.” The source further stated that they listened to and took notes on phone calls between Epstein and Dershowitz, and that Israel’s intelligence agency, the Mossad, later contacted Dershowitz to conduct debriefings about Epstein.
In 2019, after Epstein's second arrest, Barak stated that he had met him "at least ten times" – but never in the presence of women or girls.
One of Epstein's most prominent victims, Virginia Giuffre, has accused Barak in court filings of raping her.
As Drop Site News previously reported, Barak and Epstein were close friends and collaborated to broker personal business deals and to negotiate political agreements on Israel's behalf with several foreign governments.
Despite Epstein's close ties to Israel and the Mossad, many in the western press have tried to suggest he was really an asset of Russian intelligence.
